What is Voice Biometrics?

Voice biometrics is the technology that identifies or verifies a person based on the unique characteristics of their voice. Like a fingerprint, each person's voice has distinctive features (vocal tract shape, pitch patterns, speaking rhythm) that can be used for authentication.

How Voice Biometrics works

Voice biometric systems create a voiceprint from a sample of the person's speech, typically 10 to 30 seconds of natural conversation. During verification, a new speech sample is compared against the stored voiceprint. The system outputs a confidence score and accepts or rejects the identity claim based on a threshold. Active voice biometrics asks the user to speak a specific phrase; passive biometrics analyzes any natural speech.

Why Voice Biometrics matters for enterprise

Voice biometrics is used for caller authentication in banking, insurance, and government services, replacing knowledge based authentication (date of birth, mother's maiden name) which is both slower and less secure. It reduces average handle time by 30 to 60 seconds per call and eliminates social engineering attacks that exploit knowledge based questions.

How ARCA handles Voice Biometrics

ARCA supports voice biometric integration for BFSI and government deployments where caller verification is required before processing sensitive transactions.
